The Dream Continues - Passion Heart
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the underdog mare’s story continues on. Passion Heart left her Grade Three status in her wake today as she sprinted home in her 10th win in the Harbinger Stakes. So the dream continues on for team Grayson Meadows, the mare currently rides a 3 race win streak and blasted through her grade three status in just a month. Passion Heart has made quite the impressive grade jump from Grade Five to Grade Two in just one season many question if she can pull off what Y14 Spring Dawn Treader Cup* winner Hokum did and make the Grade Five to Grade One leap all in one season.
As many know Passion Heart started out with a very rough career, and throughout her life has 10 out of money finishes to her name. She went winless her two year old season and failing to place in the money in a whomping five out of seven starts. However in her lightly raced three year old season she managed to win a maiden race in January and then go winless the rest of the season. Now in her four year old season, Passion Heart has found her stride and hasn’t seemed to be able to lose it. In the grand total of things Passion Heart has now won a very impressive nine races this season and shows absolutely no sign of slowing down.
How would we know? Well for one think she’s been working and eating like a tank. Will she burst through Grade Two status as she has done with Grade Three? Only time will tell. There’s been much controversy over where to send the ever improving daughter of Passionate Ruler and we’ve tentatively settled on the Christmas Cup, December week one at Green Horse Fields, and running the following week in the December Turf Stakes then moving onto the Breeders’ Cup. It may be a bit risky to run her three times in one month but if any horse has proven to be a trooper when worked hard, it’s Passion Heart. The Fall Highweight* and Beverly D. Handicap* have also been considered for the mare but it will depend on what kind of entries they get before we make a decision.
The Breeders’ Cup is fast approaching and the whole racing world has been left to wonder if Passion Heart can reach Grade 1 status and pull off one heck of an upset in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
